I spent the weekend at scout camp as a parent helper. Phones were banned, but fortunately I smuggled mine in, because I got this shot that I am rather pleased with! It was an interesting weekend, because I didn’t really want to go especially as I’d found out us dads wouldn’t be placed in the patrols with our own kids. However in the end it turned out to be a lot of fun and very enjoyable.
You certainly learn a bit yourself and the two things that you are left with are as follows:
The scout leaders and the volunteers that help run it all do an amazing job, they give up so much time and effort to do it all and deliver a fun and educational time for our kids where they can learn and also take a few risks, which is sadly missing in today’s world.
Kids of today are in fact quite a resourceful bunch, give them the skills they need to do something and the framework to do it and they can really surprise you with their abilities!
All in all it was a great weekend, but boy am I knackered now!
